 Year 2006 - 2007
Training Programmes
During the year, 207 training programmes, both in-campus and on-location, were conducted covering 4969 participants. 
The average participation in our programmes during the year was marginally higher at 24 compared to 23.1 during the year 2005-06.
The participation of cooperative banks in our training programmes increased by 3 percentage points (from 16 to 19%) as compared to 2005-06.
Customised programmes were conducted for Union Bank of India, three amalgamated RRBs, a DCCB in Orissa and UPSCB.
On-location programmes were conducted by us on new topics like Tree borne Oil Seeds, Organic Farming, Bamboo Cultivation, Wadi development, Cluster development, etc.
We organized international exposure visits in collaboration with Weitz Centre, Israel, BAAC, Thailand, APRACA-CENTRAB, Philippines and CIRDAP, Bangladesh. In these, Weitz Centre and BAAC were new partners.

Consultancy Assignments

Three consultancy assignments were completed by us during the year; two from CARE-CASHE project and one from UCO Bank on behalf of their RRBs.  The UCO bank assignment was supplementary to the assignment we had completed during 2005-06. 

We have successfully bid for an assignment with Tamil Nadu Forest Development Corporation in collaboration with NABCONS.

Publications

During the year Faculty Members published articles on various topics like Financial Inclusion, Web Mining, Rural Housing Finance, Motivating Employees, Development of Micro and Small Enterprises, Effective monitoring of computerized bank branches in various reputed journals.  A Working Paper on “Micro Credit Action Research Project” with which the institution was associated till June 2005 was also published during the year.  One of the Faculty Members has written a book on Derivatives Trading in Agricultural Commodities titled “Krishi Jinso Mein Vayada Karobar”.

Cooperative Reform Package

BIRD was associated with the preparation of Reading Material and Trainers’ Workbook for the Capacity Building of PACS functionaries under the reform package for Cooperatives as envisaged under the Vaidyanathan Committee report.  The modules and reading material developed by the Working Group, headed by the undersigned, were field tested in two States, viz; Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan.

 
 Year 2005 - 2006
6 consultancy assignments were handled during the year. It included preparation of District Potential Survey Reports for Nalanda, Purnea, Bhojpur, Almora and east Singbhum districts. 
UCO Bank’s Assignment on State-wise amalgamation issues of the RRBs in Bihar, Rajasthan, Orissa and West Bengal.

The Institute also undertakes field level studies on the efficiency and effectiveness of rural financial institutions (RFIs), delivery of their products and services, micro finance, and various credit and development programmes being implemented in India as well as abroad.
 
These consultancies and studies help the client in particular and assist the faculty of the Institute to update their knowledge and enrich the reading material including case studies which help in providing useful insights to the trainees with a judicious blend of principles and practices.
